I really love leather-bound books. Not, naturally, ones covered in bloody hand-prints, but allllll other types of leather-bound books I enjoy. I love the texture, the smell, the colors. Something about it makes a book feel special. As though it has a legacy, a story larger than just the sum of the ink on the pages. I like that they engage my senses on so many different levels. When those big leather-bound collections started coming out a few years ago, I confess I went on a bit of a book-buying spree. Grimm’s Fairy Tales, the complete works of Shakespeare, and the collected stories of Sherlock Holmes. It always feels special to sit down to read something from them. Particularly with a hot cup of tea and a warm blanket on a cold day. Probably the best part of Fall.

I know the contents don’t change any, but for some reason the package makes it a little more special. What other things do you enjoy a little more when the presentation changes?

What other things do I enjoy a little... well, I'd say that in my case that would be virtually everything :)

For me, often package is nearly or as important as the content. Mostly because, while I reserve a lot of space in my heart for illustration, concept art or comic, I'm also a designer (literally too - I have a degree in graphic art and design after all).

I love design, because this is where practical meets creative and where art drips into everyday life. Hence, I derive quite a bit of enjoyment when I own or use things that come in interesting package, be it simple yet elegant or quirky and funny.

In fact, I prefer investing in well-designed things rather than "static" works of art, like figurines or paintings - there were people at times who, after entering my room, were kind of
surprised that I, an artist, don't have many posters or paintings hanging on my walls, but for some reason they didn't notice a pretty mug, or an ingenious box, an interesting bag or a neat book.

With that said, I don't necessarily have an attachment to leather books (the smell of old books is very nostalgic for me though) - there are a lot of 'leather bound' or rater 'faux leather-bound' books in my house and, needless to say, they lack authenticity. Genuine, leather-bound books are just so goddamn expensive... but once me and my minions conquer the world, I do intend to acquire a whole collection of those pretty, pretty books

But so far, my only leather-bound book is, hehe, my ipod in its stylish, leather-booky-looky case :XD:
