Name: The Book Age: Unknown Physical description: A large, leather-bound tome with thick, worn pages. Chosen by: NA Gift description: NA
Personality Until recently, neither of the Twins would have suspected The Book was anything but an inanimate object. However, it appears that The Book may not only be aware, but also is driven by at least two distinct personalities. Based on its recent behavior, part of The Book seems dedicated to destruction, while another part works to preserve. It is unclear if these two opposing forces are related to Lady Ink's interference, or if these energies have existed within The Book's pages all along. Only time will tell if The Book has other hidden entities wrestling for control of the Realm of Stories, and with it, the Worlds.
History The origins of The Book are shrouded in mystery. Nobody knows where it came from, or how it ended up in the Land Between. Not even the Twins are sure of their connection to it. Did they appear in the Land Between with it, or was The Book itself responsible for their creation? Did the Stories created in the Worlds form The Book, or do all Stories come from The Book to the Worlds? The only thing that might hold these answers is The Book itself, but this mighty tome has never seen fit to divulge such secrets.
Abilities Within the pages of The Book, Stories literally come alive. To look on one of the pages will pull a mortal into the Realm of Stories, to experience the tale as though it were real. Until recently, the only beings to touch The Book were the Twins. The characters and plot-lines in the book have had no experience with mortals, who are strange because they can both adapt, but stay the same. Mortals remember themselves, while the denizens of Realm of Stories constantly change and remember nothing of who they were in a previous tale. The recent invasion of Unchanging beings may have untold consequences for the characters of the Realm.
The Worlds and the Book share a close bond. Whenever a big event occurs in one of the Worlds, that change echoes through The Book's pages and back out into the Stories of all the other Worlds, impacting them in turn. When changes are made directly to The Book, this effect is even greater, as all the Worlds feel the ripples of the event simultaneously. It could be said that to alter a Page in The Book is to change the face of every World, although there is no telling exactly how these changes will manifest.
Does the book have any abilities over the Unchanging beings, such as manipulating their mood or giving them unconscious ideas? And is the Book moving to accomadate the Unchanging, like as a sort of 'hand of the GM' that sets places and NPCs up specifically because they're there?
...I can't believe I haven't asked this, or if there's an answer, I haven't found it yet, but what's the color of the book? Or is it supposed to be grayscale like this?
